For the past four years, landscape painter Debra Joy Groesser has followed in the footsteps of Abby Williams Hill (1861-1943), an extraordinary painter and activist who was commissioned byby the railroads four times to paint the American West in the early 1900’s. The University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington houses the permanent collection of her work and memorabilia. The parallels between the lives of these two women are fascinating, from their community involvement, leadership, and dedication to family, to their love of art, nature, travel and the American West. These two exhibitions showcase the spirit and the paintings of two women artists who lived and worked a century apart. Art of the West Magazine will be featuring this show in their editor's column in the November/December issue.
